(If you view your image anywhere other than PSE Editor, including Organizer and Explorer, the transparent area will appear to be white but it's still transparent. Try it on both the "Save As." and the "Save for Web" methods. If you've really lost the transparency and got white instead, then something's going wrong with your save. By doing this, the png will lose its own transparent area but there shouldn't be a problem because it is sitting on the new layer's own transparent background. If you place it on a picture it should be going on its own layer - which will be transparent. Apparently I am saving the files with the correct extension (png), but once it is placed on a picture or background, the transparent background is replaced for a white background.

What version of PSe are you using, versions 5 and 6 have the Frame layer feature as part of the creative suite, if you drag onto the workspace from the Bin you make the photo on a Framer Layer. Dragging from the bin gets PSE to do all kinds of strange things to it. I hadn't realised that, so it's something to note for any other people.You can't drag from the bin and keep the transparency - but you can drag from a 'properly' open picture. Maybe this will help some other frustrated soul. I had to open them, click select all and then copy from and paste into my selection in the other doc. I was opening them in the bin and dragging them, that does not work! lol Got it! I wasn't selecting them properly. and went for png, if you had a transparent background it should have retained it. I'm trying to simulate the problem here and can't get it to go wrong (except not checking the box in "Save for Web"). You certainly should retain the transparency whichever way you saved it. Is there another way that's successful?ĭid the images have transparent (chequered) backgrounds when you saved them as png files? If so, do they still have the transparent backgrounds when you re-open them? I'm just wondering if you used "Save for Web" and didn't check the 'transparency' box. I'm opening them in the bin and then dragging them into the file. I'm not able to just copy and paste them, that I can see. This happens with all transparent files I do this with. They are transparent backgrounds but the second they hit the photo project, they go gray. I'm trying to drag some png files for decorations into existing photos and template work, but the backgrounds of the png files are turning into gray once placed.
